Hello, everyone, and welcome to a new episode of "New NoiZe." I'm your host, Atlas Castle, and I'm thrilled to have you here with me today on Massive Radio. As always, we're about to embark on a musical journey through some of my all-time favorite albums, taking you from the very beginning to the final note.
In today's episode, I'm focusing on an indie electronica album that holds a special place in my collection. This album is by the American artist and producer Silence_Castor.
His influences trace back to the grime of the 80s underground (Black Flag, Big Black), extend to the industrial wonders of the 90s (Nine Inch Nails, Ministry), and also incorporate elements from some of today's more mainstream electronic acts (Lorn, Jon Hopkins, Thom Yorke). These inspirations led Nate to develop a fondness for samplers, allowing him to incorporate bits and pieces of the records he already owned and loved. His live shows usually meld these two worlds, drenched in reverb and delicious tape saturation.
Regarding the backstory, I met Nate back in 2020 during the early stages of my exploration of electronic music. I came across him in an online community/label known as Electronic Music Curiosity. I learned so much from that group. Sadly, this online community eventually came to an end, but Nate and I continued to connect virtually through various projects and online communities.
I've been continuously learning from him, and I hope to continue doing so. Time will tell. Our interactions have always revolved around good karma, fun, music, creating a safe space, and collaborating. Nate's music and creative process are incredibly inspiring, constantly evolving, and maintaining a tastefully fresh genre and aesthetic.
With 'Portals,' Nate aimed to delve even deeper into a conceptual idea. We're all going through gateways at every second. Moving to another moment in life, or another place in reality. Where were you when it first happened? Where were you afterward? Where are you now?
Let's now dive headfirst into 'Portals' by Silence_Castor, right here on Massive Radio.
I'll see you all next week for another exciting album selection!
